About Nicaragua
Nicaragua has long been a country with hidden wonders, and has only recently started to gain tourist popularity. Its charming Latin American culture, crowded traditional markets selling food and handmade trinkets, and its stunning landscapes are a sight to behold. Plus for those who like a bit of adventure, why not try hiking up the Masaya Volcano?
Make sure to arrive in the afternoon, no later than 4pm, to book a slot in the night tour up to the summit of the Masaya Volcano. You can look through the information centre and then hike up to the top of the Masaya crater. Less adventurous travellers can also drive up to the crater, but it depends on personal preference. The guided tour starts at 5:30pm, where you hike right up to the crest of the volcano, then hike back down through the lava tubes, home to hundreds of tiny bats.
The Masaya is an active volcano, so the best way to see it is at night, when the bright lava is contrasted with the serene black of the night sky. Or if you prefer seeing the Volcano in the day, you could take the adventurous route down the Volcano, you could volcano board down it, although for health and safety reasons its probably better not to.
