Azerbaijan is a country situated around the border between Europe and Asia between Russia and Iran, and it is increasing in popularity as a tourist destination in this area. It enjoys an especially varied range of climates, though most of the country is temperate, meaning it is suitable and pleasant for visitors all year round.
The natural beauty is evident in the swathes of dense forest, the nationwide mud volcanoes and the stunning string of mountain lakes called the Tears of Kyapaz. Visitors must be aware that if their passport shows any evidence of entry to the unrecognised republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, accessed from Azerbaijan but under Armenian control, they will be refused entry and deported, so be sure to insist that there is no trace of entry to this area in your passport itself.
